General information

Essex Local Wildlife Sites Project

In partnership with a wide range of organisations the Essex Local Wildlife Sites Project seeks to work with their owners to improve the value of the Local Wildlife Sites and thereby secure Local Wildlife Sites for future generations.

What are the likely benefits from getting involved with the project?

There are a wide range of benefits from owning a Local Wildlife Site and many of these are listed below. For more information contact Adam Rochester, Wildlife Sites Officer 01621 862988.

We can provide free of charge:

  • Advice on grants that may be available to you and support you with grant applications e.g. Positive Conservation Management Grant, Woodland Grant Scheme and Environmental Stewardship Scheme.
  • Advice on how to manage your site with wildlife in mind.
  • Ways to get your site surveyed or re-surveyed for wildlife.
  • Back ground information on your site including information relating to main wildlife features.
  • Assistance to carry out the essential works on your site or link you with volunteers in the local community.

What we don’t do!

  • Pass on your contact details.
  • Promote your site to be visited by EWT members, members of the public or members of the public.
  • We don’t open up rights of way through your land.
  • We don’t freely access your land – we always gain your agreement prior to entering your land.
  • Tell you how you should manage your land – it is a voluntary to get involved with the project and we only give you advice about your Local Wildlife Site, you make the final decision on how you manage your land.
